Three Area Employers Recognized at Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas Annual Celebration

During the Annual Celebration, on January 24, 2024, Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas recognized three well-deserving area employers for excellence and innovation. These outstanding employers hold a strong conviction and commitment to engage with the community, job seekers, and workforce partners to yield achievements through a shared vision of workforce and economic development.  These employers are great partners for Workforce Solutions, and their efforts make Northeast Texas a great place to live and work. 

Large Employer of the Year - CHRISTUS St Michael Health System

Christus St Michael, has been serving the greater Texarkana area for more than 106 years.  The healthcare provider has grown significantly over the years, and now includes a hospital, rehabilitation facility, imaging center, and other facilities throughout the region.  As one of the region’s largest employers, Christus St Michael provides a variety of careers for local individuals.  The Christus St Michael Health System serves residents of Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana, with a full scope of expansive health care services.  In 2022, the Christus Health System, which includes Christus St Michael was highlighted as one of the top 20 employers in the state of Texas and the top employer in Northeast Texas, by Forbes magazine.  

Christus is an excellent partner for Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas and the Texas Workforce system.  The organization posts all jobs in Work In Texas and attends all of the Board’s area hiring events.  Additionally, Christus participates in the Board’s career exploration events, including the LEAP Expo for 8th grade students and Future Forward for high school seniors.  Christus offers internships, volunteer programs, and job shadowing experiences for area students to learn about career opportunities in health care.  Christus also participates in the Board’s teacher externship program, which is designed to give area teachers more information on employer workforce and training needs.  


Small Employer of the Year - D6 Inc.

D6 Inc., located in Sulphur Springs TX, is the fastest design-to-shelf packaging manufacturer in the world. The company uses recycled plastics in their manufacturing process and takes a very active role in improving recycling efforts across the state.  The product lines are designed to respond quickly to customer demands, while maintaining the highest levels of quality.  D6 Inc uses the latest technologies in automation, robotics, and software to build custom manufacturing systems for the greatest precision thermoformer the market has seen.

Although new to Sulphur Springs and Texas, the company has already proven to be a great partner for the workforce system.  D6 Inc posts their jobs in Work In Texas, participates in local hiring events, and is in frequent communication with the Sulphur Springs workforce center on hiring needs and potential candidates.  The Board anticipates, as the company is able to transition into normal operations from the start-up phase, that this partnership will continue to grow.  Efforts will be made to include D6 Inc in the Board’s youth career exploration events, career pathways initiative, and the summer earn and learn program. 


Local Employer of Excellence - AEP SWEPCO

AEP SWEPCO is an electric utility company operating in three states, including Texas.  The company is a great partner for the workforce system participating in all of the Board’s youth career exploration events.  SWEPCO’s Teacher Vision Grants provides funding for area teachers to purchase engineering and electrical STEM materials for students.  SWEPCO has partnered with both Texas State Technical College to support the Electrical Lineworker Technology program.  The AEP foundation provided funds to TSTC for tuition assistance, aimed to help students finish the degree or certificate program.  SWEPCO also partnered with Texas A&M Texarkana to construct a Computer Aided Design lab for engineering and technology students.  SWEPCO is very active in the communities they serve, volunteering and donating funds for several area organizations.
