Texas Rising Star Banquet a Success

Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas held a banquet to recognize the hard work and accomplishments of the area’s Texas Rising Star (TRS) Providers.  With a theme of “A Night Among the Stars” Workforce staff brought old Hollywood glamour to the Region VIII Education Service Center in Pittsburg,Texas on Saturday, October 15th.  A keynote address was provided by Todd English and several awards were given to attendees.

These Providers offer the very best care to the children of the region, providing early educational opportunities, STEM skills enrichment, and social skills enhancement, all of which prepare them to succeed as they move forward in life. The designation of TRS means the providers must meet more difficult benchmarks and undergo heightened scrutiny from assessors while maintaining  rigorous standards.

In addition to the recognition to the providers, the teachers who completed their Child Development Associate (CDA) credential were also recognized.  These individuals used their personal time to participate in continuing education designed to improve their skills as an instructor.  Celebrating these dedicated and caring professionals was an honor for the staff.

Hiring Red, White, and You! Hiring Fair

The 5th annual Hiring Red White and You! Hiring Fair was held on November 10th at the Texarkana Convention Center.  The Hiring Red, White and You! Hiring Fair connects Texas veterans and their spouses with employers who value the experience, discipline and other exceptional qualities inherent with a military background.

In partnership with the Texas Workforce Commission, Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas and the other 27 workforce boards across the state of Texas, hosted events on November 10th.  The event was held from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM.  Veterans and their spouses were invited to participate in the event during the first hour.  After the first hour, Veterans, their spouses, and the general public were invited to attend.

There were 66 veteran job seekers, 13 spouses of veterans, and 257 non-veteran job seekers in attendance.  Once again, the employer community showed great support for the event, with more than 80 participating. These numbers would suggest a great event, but this year there was extra cause for celebration, as one of the veteran job seekers in attendance was hired on the spot, by a local trucking company.

Youth Career Fairs

The Learning Endorsements And Professions (L.E.A.P.) Youth Career Fair was held October 21st at the Mt. Pleasant Civic Center.  Hosted by Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas and the Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce, the event provided an opportunity for 8th grade students from the area to meet and interact with local employers and professionals.  Students were given an "inside and hands-on" look at many of the professions available in the local job market.  Eighth grade students in Texas begin making early career-related education choices prior to entering high school. The students at these events leave with a better understanding of career options better prepared to make career choices.

More than 40 local employers and training organizations participated in this year's event in Mount Pleasant and approximately 450 students were in attendance.

A special thank you to our event sponsors: AEP Swepco and the Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce.
