Youth Career Fairs

Learning Endorsements and Professions (L.E.A.P.) Youth Career Expos were held on September 9th at the Texarkana Convention Center and September 23rd at the Hopkins County Civic Center.  Hosted by Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas, the event invited 8th grade students from the area to meet and interact with local employers and professionals.  The students were given a hands-on look at many of the professions available in the local job market.  Eighth grade students in Texas start making early career related education choices prior to entering high school. The students at these events left with a better understanding of career options and will be better prepared to make career choices now and in the future.

More than 50 local employers and training organizations participated in this year's event at Texarkana and approximately 750 students were in attendance.  At Sulphur Springs there were over 40 employers and 500 students in attendance.

A special thank you to our event sponsors: AEP Swepco, Express Employment Professionals, TEXAR Federal Credit Union, Farmer Electric Cooperative and Sulphur Springs Economic Development Corporation.
