Northeast Texas Employment Statistics

The nine county Workforce Development Area unemployment rate for July 2016 was 6.2%, which is .5% higher than June 2016 (5.7%) and an increase of .4% from July 2015 (5.8%).

Texas Economy Adds 23,600 Jobs in July:
State has experienced job growth in 15 of the past 16 months

AUSTIN Texas grew by an estimated 173,000 seasonally adjusted jobs over the past year with the addition of 23,600 nonfarm jobs in July. The state has added jobs in 15 of the last 16 months

New Member Certified by TWC

Please join us in welcoming Shanna Martin to the Board.  The Texas Workforce Commission certified Ms. Martin’s appointment on August 9th. Shanna is the Executive Director for CANHelp in Sulphur Springs, Texas. She represents the Hopkins County Community Based Organization. Shanna’s term on the Board runs through September 30, 2018.

 

 

Commissioner Julian Alvarez III Visits Texarkana

Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) Commissioner Julian Alvarez III, representing Labor, visited board members and board staff during his visit to the Texarkana area on August 12, 2016. Commissioner Alvarez was in Texarkana to present a Skills Development Fund training grant to Texarkana College and Alcoa Mills Products.

 

 

 

Board Staff Members Recognized

The Career and Technical Association of Texas (CTAT) and its Board of Directors awarded the 2015-16 CTAT Image Awards at its annual state conference July 27, 2016.  The Area 3 CTAT members selected Sandra Shingleur and Bart Spivey from Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas as the Area 3 Business Leaders of the Year.

NTCC Child Care Conference 

Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas cosponsored the first Northeast Texas Community College Child Care Conference.  The event was a success with 193 providers in attendance, each earning 7 hours of required continuing education credits.  In addition to sessions on art education and emergency preparedness, a training class was held for the seventeen providers who received the Copernicus 3-in-1 interactive whiteboards and easels.  These high tech devices were provided by the Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas Quality initiative, Reaching 4 Stars, and are designed to improve the STEM educational opportunities available at the Texas Rising Star Providers. 

 

 

Community Economic Adjustment Assistance Grant 

As part of the current Community Economic Adjustment Assistance grant from the Office of Economic Adjustment, Workforce Solutions and TexAmericas Center hope to strengthen support for regional economic development efforts. Read more here.

 

 

Donations for door prizes being accepted

Workforce Solutions is soliciting for door prizes for the 20th Annual Texas Workforce Conference to be held December 7-9, 2016 at the Hilton Americas in Houston, Texas.  

Door prizes must be universally usable (i.e., gift certificates redeemable from a business location across the state) and the total value of a door prize cannot be less than $25 or more than $100.  If you or a business you know would be interested in participating, please contact April Corbit by calling (903) 794-9490 ext. 512 or email april.corbit@networks.org.
