Northeast Texas Employment Statistics

The nine county Workforce Development Area unemployment rate for June 2016 was 5.7%, which is .8% higher than May 2016 (4.9%) and an increase of .1% from June 2015 (5.6%).

Texas Adds 171,100 Jobs Over the Past Year: Unemployment rate increased slightly to 4.5 percent

Texas has added an estimated 171,100 seasonally adjusted jobs over the past year with the addition of 7,200 nonfarm jobs in June. The state has added jobs in 14 of the last 15 months. Texas’ seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased to 4.5 percent in June, up slightly from 4.4 percent in May, and remained below the national average of 4.9 percent.

New Member Certified by TWC

Please join us in welcoming Tammy Miller to the Board.  The Texas Workforce Commission certified Ms. Miller’s appointment on July 12th. Tammy is the Assistant Vice President/Retail Relationship Officer for Alliance Bank in Sulphur Springs, Texas. She will serve as the Hopkins County Private Sector representative nominated by the Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce.  Tammy’s term on the Board runs through September 30, 2018.

 

 

New Employer comes to Northeast Texas

Expal USA, a company specializing in the remanufacturing of explosives has expanded operations and opened a branch in the area.  Newly located at TexAmericas Center, the company has been in business for over forty years.  Based on current planning estimates, initial start-up will occur in October of 2016, with three full shifts running around the clock by December 2016.  The company is currently in the process of hiring over forty positions, with the potential for more to follow as expansion occurs.  This new employer presents a great opportunity for regional job creation and an exciting prospect for local job seekers.
