Northeast Texas Employment Statistics

The nine county Workforce Development Area unemployment rate for May 2016 was 4.9%, which is .1% higher than April 2016 (4.8%) but still down .3% from May 2015 (5.2%).   The Workforce Solutions Northeast Employment Statistics showing labor force, employment and unemployment rate for each county is shown by clicking on the document

Mount Pleasant Expo

The Mount Pleasant Career and Community Services Expo was held on June 21st at the Mount Pleasant Civic Center.

 

 

Industry Tours

Workforce Solutions Northeast partners with the Region 8 Education Service Center to provide industry tours for regional career and technology education teachers on June 6th in Texarkana and June 10th in Sulphur Springs.

On tour at International Paper

Workforce Solutions Northeast has facilitated industry tours for the past four years.  These tours are designed to give the teachers a better understanding of industry operations at the local level.  Each tour site provides them with a brief overview of operations and then a tour of the facility.

 

 

Adult Education and Literacy Regional Meeting

Adult Education and Literacy educators attended a regional meeting in Mt. Pleasant on June 9th. 

 

 

Department of Defense Office of Economic Adjustment Grant

Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas, with the support of several regional organizations, was awarded a $454,772 U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) Office of Economic Adjustment (OEA) Defense Industry Adjustment Grant to assist in economic planning.  Additionally, $50,530 of local non-federal match funds was contributed by a number of key partners.

 

 

Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas Website Re-Vamp in the Works

Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas executed a contract with Civic Plus to re-vamp the Workforce Solutions Northeast website. The goal of the update is to provide a more user-friendly and dynamic site. There are four phases to the project task and the website is scheduled to be launched on October 6, 2016.

 

 

Texas Adds 171,800 Jobs Over the Past Year: Unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.4 percent

Texas has added an estimated 171,800 seasonally adjusted jobs over the past year with the addition of 200 nonfarm jobs in May. The state has added jobs in 13 of the last 14 months. Texas’ seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.4 percent in May, which is below the national average of 4.7 percent.
