Skills Certifications
Many employers are looking for job applicants who are “certified” in certain skills such as using a fork lift, medical coding, CISCO or Microsoft technologies, diesel technology, vocational nursing, etc. Many of these certifications require short-term training, allowing you to earn a certificate in a matter of months rather than years. A good place to start is by researching the certifications available through the local community colleges or universities. Training is also available online.
If you are still in high school, talk to your high school counselor to find out what certifications you may be able to earn through dual-credit programs.
To learn more about the options available, talk with a staff member from Workforce Solutions, your high school counselor, or an advisor with the college you would like to attend.
