Amazon Expands Workforce Through Local Partnership
When Amazon opened a new facility in the Paris area, the company partnered with Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas to rapidly build its team. Through a series of hiring events in October and November 2024, Amazon interviewed 290 job seekers and hired 150 employees on the spot. Due to the success of these events, the company later hired an additional 150 workers. Workforce staff provided space, job announcements, and onboarding support throughout the process. This strong partnership played a key role in building a skilled local workforce.
Reentry Program Builds Path to Employment
An incarcerated participant at the Federal Correctional Institute in Texarkana began a new chapter through the PROWD program. After completing Stage 1 while incarcerated, he continued into Stage 2 at a halfway house, exploring a career as an electrician. Workforce staff supported him with resume development, interview preparation, and job search strategies, including addressing his felony background. With a clear employment plan and renewed confidence, he is now prepared to successfully reenter the workforce. His journey reflects the power of structured reentry support.
From Retail to Registered Nurse
Rickeyzeshia, a determined single mother, sought a better future for herself and her daughter. Through WIOA support, she received funding for tuition, books, and fees while attending nursing school at Texarkana College. She also enrolled in the childcare program, allowing her daughter to attend a Texas Rising Star facility. After completing her program, she secured employment at Wadley Regional Medical Center earning $29.31 per hour. Her success marked the end of childcare assistance and the beginning of long-term self-sufficiency.
TAA Training Leads to Electrician Career
After being identified through unemployment records, Alex was contacted by local TAA staff about unused benefits available to him. He chose to pursue a one-year residential electrician program with support from TAA and WIOA. Upon completing his training in December, he secured immediate employment as an electrician’s helper. His success demonstrates how proactive outreach and training support can lead to meaningful career transitions. Alex is now building stability in a high-demand field.
CDL Training Opens New Opportunities
After being laid off, Nicholas visited the workforce center determined to provide for his family of six. With WIOA scholarship and transportation assistance, he completed CDL training in December. Despite feeling discouraged by age-related barriers, he remained committed and spent hours daily submitting applications. Workforce and Texas Veterans Commission staff supported him throughout his search. His persistence paid off when he secured employment with Super 1 Foods. Job Fair Connects Candidate to HR Role
Latonya was referred to Workforce Solutions through the RESEA program as her unemployment benefits neared exhaustion. Staff updated her resume and connected her to opportunities, including the Hiring Red, White, and You event. She impressed employers during two on-the-spot interviews and soon accepted a position as HR Manager at Enhabit Home Health earning $22.00 per hour. Hiring Event Connects Veterans and Employers
The 13th annual Hiring Red, White, and You job fair brought together 67 employers and 216 job seekers, including veterans and their spouses. Hosted by Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas, the event provided direct access to hiring managers and support services. Employer feedback was overwhelmingly positive, praising both organization and candidate quality. The event continues to serve as a vital employment resource for the region. Planning is already underway for next year’s success.

Graphics Packaging partnered with Workforce Solutions to improve candidate assessment and interview success rates. Together, they developed a customized workshop covering test-taking strategies, professional presentation, and interview preparation. Workforce staff also proctored assessments on-site to streamline the hiring process. Early results show improved candidate performance and stronger hiring outcomes. CDL Training Transforms Family’s Future
Jerri, a mother of four facing unemployment, was introduced to WIOA through the RESEA program. With scholarship and transportation assistance, she completed CDL training to quickly reenter the workforce. After graduation, she secured employment with Circle H Dirtworks, increasing her earnings by nearly 40 percent. This advancement provided greater financial stability for her family. Tiger Learning Center – Employer Success Through Hiring Event
Tiger Learning Center reached out to Workforce Solutions for help hiring staff in preparation for a new elementary school daycare and the expansion of an existing site. Workforce staff quickly organized a hiring event on June 3rd at the Texarkana Workforce Center. With extensive promotion, the event attracted 68 job seekers. The center was pleased with the turnout and anticipates hiring approximately 25 new employees. This collaboration showcases the effectiveness of rapid-response hiring support for employers with growing workforce needs.
Rylee – WIOA Helps Young Nursing Student Succeed Against the Odds
At just 19, Rylee came to the Workforce Center for support with an RN program. Despite her limited work history, she stayed committed, working part-time throughout the demanding program. WIOA provided funding for tuition, books, fees, and transportation. In May, Rylee graduated with honors and accepted a position as a surgical floor nurse at Longview Regional, earning $33.50/hour—nearly eight times her previous salary. Her determination and Workforce support helped launch a promising healthcare career.
Jakedric – WIOA Youth Transforms Training into Recognition
At 20 years old with limited work experience, Jakedric came to the Workforce Center seeking direction. Interested in truck driving, he was assessed and approved for WIOA-funded training. After completing the course, he faced initial hiring challenges due to age and inexperience. His Career Planner continued to assist with job referrals, ultimately helping him secure employment with Two Men and a Truck. He has since been recognized as Employee of the Month and is now working full-time at $17/hour—a strong testament to perseverance and support.
Jamondre – WIOA Assistance Helps Family Rebuild After Layoff
After nearly a year of unemployment, Jamondre—a husband and father of two—turned to the Workforce Center for help. With WIOA support, he enrolled in a 32-week Electrician program, receiving funding for tuition, books, and fees. After completing his training, he quickly found full-time employment as an Electrician’s Apprentice with Walker Engineering at $20/hour. This outcome helped restore financial stability for his family after a difficult period and demonstrated the impact of targeted reskilling efforts.
Student Hireability Navigator – Community Leadership Expands Reach
The Student Hireability Navigator (SHN) for Northeast Texas has built meaningful partnerships with local organizations to expand opportunities for students with disabilities. The SHN was named District Governor of the Lion’s Club and service chair for Altrusa Texarkana, both groups with a strong focus on youth support and inclusion. These affiliations have enabled wider program visibility and advocacy. The SHN is also pursuing an Ambassador role with the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce—further solidifying community collaboration in workforce inclusion.
PROWD – Second Chance Opportunities Create Pathways for Reentry
In May, a PROWD Career Planner visited Priefert Manufacturing in Mt. Pleasant to discuss second chance hiring. After a productive meeting with the HR manager, Priefert committed to participating in a mock job fair at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI). At the fair, they presented job opportunities to inmates and encouraged applications post-release. The company emphasized training paths such as welding and maintenance. This collaboration exemplified how Workforce Solutions and community partners can create meaningful reentry opportunities and promote inclusive hiring.
Sarah – Career Coach Support Launches Graduate into Forestry Career
Sarah had a plan to enter the workforce right after graduating from Cooper High School. After participating in a Career Signing Day, she stayed in contact with her Career Coach for resume help and job applications. The Workforce Center provided hands-on support, and shortly after, Sarah was hired by A&M Forest Services. Her journey from high school graduate to full-time employment illustrates the powerful role of early workforce engagement and follow-up support from dedicated career coaching.
Savannah and Aaron – Childcare Support Bridges Family to Self-Sufficiency
Savannah and Aaron, a young couple with a child under four, began with SNAP assistance and a three-month job search. Savannah was working and studying while Aaron was unemployed. During the program, Aaron gained full-time work at Diamond C Trailers, which enabled them to continue receiving childcare support. By the time of recertification, Aaron remained employed and Savannah had completed her training and was hired as an RN at Christus Health. With improved household income, the family successfully transitioned off childcare assistance—a full-circle workforce success.
Rachel – SNAP E&T Leads to Full-Time Career in Manufacturing
Rachel, a single mother of three, joined the SNAP E&T program and was assigned to four weeks of job search, supported by transportation assistance. After struggling with Graphics Packaging’s application process, she attended a specialized workshop at the Workforce Center. With improved test scores, she was offered a full-time role as a Production Apprentice earning $21/hour. When the cost of required safety boots became a barrier, Workforce Solutions stepped in to help. After facing two withdrawn job offers due to background reviews, he refused to give up. His persistence paid off when he secured full-time employment as a lineman with Absolute Pipeline Integrity, earning $28 per hour.

Melissa demonstrated extraordinary resilience while pursuing her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse. With support from the WIOA program, she graduated from Paris Junior College, passed the NCLEX-RN, and secured a position at Titus Regional Medical Center earning $36.11 per hour. Supporting Growth Through Workforce-Driven Childcare
Learning Station, a thriving childcare provider, has expanded its facilities with support from community and workforce development partnerships. With a new playground, four additional classrooms, and a renovated parking lot, the center is better equipped to meet the growing needs of working families. The opening of a new learning center in the Texarkana Greater Area has further increased access to quality childcare. Recently nominated as one of the best preschools in the region, Learning Station’s growth is a testament to how early education centers play a vital role in supporting workforce participation across Northeast Texas.
Innovating Career Readiness with Technology
The Workforce Career and Educational Outreach Program (WCEOS) continues to empower students by bridging the gap between education and employment. In the past quarter, over 500 students engaged in more than 1,200 virtual career simulations using VR headsets—a record-breaking number. Career Coaches have also expanded collaboration with local school districts, including new advisory board participation with North Lamar and Mount Vernon ISDs. These efforts are equipping students with firsthand insights into career pathways, better preparing them for future workforce success.
Expanding Opportunities for Job Seekers and Employers
Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas has successfully organized several job fairs, enhancing employment opportunities across the region. The Hopkins County Job Fair, attended by 15 employers and 108 job seekers, marked one of the most well-attended events in years. In a major win for accessibility, a rural-focused event in Cass County brought together 18 employers and 35 job seekers, helping overcome transportation barriers for local residents. These hiring events have received overwhelmingly positive feedback, reinforcing the importance of proactive employer engagement in workforce development.
RESEA Assistance Leads to Rapid Reemployment
After being unemployed for over four months, Martin turned to the RESEA program for support. With more than four decades of experience as a mechanic, he faced a challenging job market. Workforce staff helped him develop a personalized employment plan and referred him to several relevant opportunities. Shortly after, he secured full-time employment with Taber Automotive Transmission. His story demonstrates the RESEA program’s success in guiding experienced workers back into the workforce quickly and effectively.

SNAP E&T Connects Job Seeker to Immediate Employment
In January 2025, Jerome was contacted to join the SNAP E&T program. With minimal work history, he was eager to find a job quickly. His case manager seized the opportunity when MAU Workforce Solutions was onsite for interviews and secured him an immediate interview. He was hired on the spot. Thanks to this timely connection, Jerome’s new employment allowed him to transition off SNAP benefits—an important milestone in his path to independence.
OJT Program Paves Way for Career in Diesel Mechanics
Brandon, a former long-haul truck driver, was seeking a local job to better support his wife and three children. Facing barriers due to past justice involvement and a gap in hands-on experience, workforce staff recognized his potential in diesel mechanics and connected him with Thee Roadside Services through an On-the-Job Training (OJT) program. After four months of training, he secured full-time employment at $20/hour. Brandon’s journey highlights how targeted support and OJT can turn potential into success.
Fostering Community Partnerships for Inclusive Services
The Student Hireability program made significant community strides this quarter. Key initiatives included installing a Workforce Connections kiosk in the Texarkana Public Library and joining all CRCG groups in Northeast Texas, as well as Altrusa Texarkana. Presentations to local high school students helped spread awareness of workforce services for youth with disabilities. The program continues to grow, promoting inclusivity and furthering the board’s goals of outreach and community engagement.
